About

Microhouse is an award-winning collaborative passionate about the design of detached accessory dwelling units (DADUs), small houses, and their communities. We take pride in creating innovative designs that are closely tailored to our clients' needs.

OUR SERVICES

At microhouse we are the Seattle experts in the design and permitting of ADUs. We are here to help our clients create small homes that exceed their expectations. Our experience enables us to make smart design decisions from the beginning and throughout the design process, allowing our clients to allocate their resources to the things that they value most. We work with top notch consultants and home builders assuring quality and affordability in everything that we do.

WHAT IS POSSIBLE AND HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

The most important questions we answer about ADUs are, "what is possible for my lot," and "what is a reasonable budget range to realize my goals?" The best way we have found to accurately answer these questions is to perform a paid site visit. During the visit we will be joined by a contractor who has experience building ADUs, and have a discussion about how to assess the existing conditions that will impact construction and how to best to realize your goals. Based on this discussion, we will prepare a rough schematic design and summary of pre-construction costs. The contractor will prepare a budget outline for your project. When we are done, you will have a reasonable budget and timeline to complete your project and we are set up to begin the design process. If you hire us to work on the design of your project, then the cost of the scheduled site visit will be credited towards your design fees.

GETTING STARTED

Because we design so many backyard cottages we are often able to answer feasibility questions over the phone. To start the process send us an email with your address, telling us about your goals for your small house or backyard cottage. We will schedule a follow up phone call and or site visit.

OPEN HOUSES AND WORKSHOPS

Our workshops and open houses are a great opportunity to learn about small houses and backyard cottages and meet others thinking about building and living in them. We hold these events periodically throughout the year. For a current schedule visit our backyard cottage blog.
