This DADU was selected for the AIA DADU tour in 2019. It dates back to a time when the allowable height and size for DADUs in Seattle was much smaller. In 2014 Austin and Patti created this wonderful house together, stripped down to the essence of what they value most. Their new dream house just happens to be located in the back yard of Austin's long time residence. This cottage lives large, providing an open floor plan with a second floor master suite and office plus a gracious kitchen for Austin, a former restaurateur. A rooftop deck looks out over the treetops giving a sense of connection to the outdoors where they are often to be found biking, skiing, or kayaking. Fast forward to today and they are moving full time into a cabin we designed with them in Mazama and selling their Seattle DADU. As a result we have an opportunity to show off this lovely home.

Seattle permitted more DADUs than new homes in 2022
In 2022 there were 551 DADUs permitted in Seattle which is approximately four times the number permitted five years ago. While not all of these will get built, it is a lot of DADUs, and they are fairly evenly spread out through the city.
